About
Will Stahlgren

Will has a 25+ year work history in yacht repair and restoration both as boatwright and owner of his own wooden boat restoration business. His experience encompasses countless restorations and repairs including several large, successfully completed projects in conjunction with other local industry professionals. He has extensive experience in surveying vessels of fiberglass, steel, aluminum and wood construction, as well as first-hand experience in all phases of hull and deck repair, planking and structural rebuilding, interior joinery and construction, and electrical and plumbing systems.

An alumnus of Walter Ansels’ “Wooden Boat Repair Methods” at The Wooden Boat School in Brooklin, Maine, Will’s career highlights include several award-winning restorations. One such standout is the 1938 26′ Richardson, Little Giant, which won Best in Class and Best in Show at the 2012 ACBS Twenty-fifth Anniversary Show in St. Michaels MD. The story of the restoration and boat was published by Wooden Boat Magazine in an article written by Will.

Will cherished growing up boating in Maine on the waters around Mt. Desert Island with his grandparents and went on to become a lifelong boater, wooden boat owner and marine professional who enjoys the best of Maine and the Chesapeake Bay. Will still vacations annually in Maine and is found on or near the water whenever possible.

A new chapter in Will’s career began with a full time 3 year apprenticeship with Fred Wise of Fred Wise Yacht Survey, a well known and respected local marine surveyor of 30 years. This apprenticeship was invaluable to Will as he became acquainted with all facets of the surveying of yachts and small craft with a competent guide in Fred. Will became a SAMS surveyor associate at the beginning of his apprenticeship. Will then passed the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors AMS® exam and became an Accredited Marine Surveyor. Will then became the primary yacht surveyor of Fred Wise Yacht Survey for a 3 year period. It is with pride and many thanks to Mr. Wise that Will has started his own company Will Stahlgren Yacht Survey, LLC. Will looks forward to continuing to be closely associated with Fred as his close friend and mentor.

Will is committed to working closely with his clients and delivering the highest quality and most thorough marine surveys. He prides him self on attention to detail and a quick report turn around time. Will diligently works to effectively identify a vessels condition and clearly communicate his observations and findings to his client.
